David Story
David manages Professor Siddharthan Chandran's large laboratory research group within the Euan MacDonald Centre. His role encompasses a wide range of tasks. This ranges from maintaining day-to-day consumable stock level, to the purchase of equipment in the centre and the maintenance of this equipment. The jewel in the crown is the Euan MacDonald Centre confocal microscope which is extensively used 24/7 by all the Centre's Principal Investigators located at the Edinburgh Bioquarter site. David also assists with some scientific tasks both in vivo and in vitro, for example taking turns in feeding the IPCs stem cells at the weekend and the cutting of ultra thin brain tissue.
David also plays an active role in insuring Health and Safety guideline are also followed. One of the tasks he finds most rewarding is the public engagement the lab conducts and forging a bridge between the lab and the clinic 'Bench to Bedside' research.
David graduated Bradford University in 1992 with a B.Sc in Biomedical Sciences and afterwards worked in the Crystallography department at the University of Cambridge and the Brain Repair Centre also at the University of Cambridge. He moved to Edinburgh in May 2009 to take up is current role of Laboratory Manager/Euan MacDonald Centre Finance Manager.
