Judy Newton
As MND Nurse Consultant, Judy's role is to lead the MND Clinical Specialist team to ensure Scotland has first class evidence-based care for people living with MND, regardless of postcode, and also to take a lead role in patient-centred research and clinical trials.
Judy is also the Nurse and Clinic Deputy Director of the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, a University of Edinburgh clinical research facility that is closely aligned with the Euan MacDonald Centre. At the Clinic, Judy leads the delivery of clinical care and research to improve the lives of people with neurological conditions including MND, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and dementias.
Having trained as a Registered General Nurse in Glasgow in 1988, Judy’s career led straight to that of neuroscience nursing. Judy’s first MND post was that of MND Clinical Specialist for the South East of Scotland in 1998. Judy completed a Master’s Degree in Cognitive Assessment in MND, and following the announcement to double the number of MND nurses in Scotland, was appointed to the newly created post of MND Nurse Consultant in 2016, funded by Scottish Government, MND Scotland and the University of Edinburgh. In 2019, Judy accepted the additional role of Nurse and Clinic Manager of the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic.
