Prof Jo Edson Ferrie

Associate Dean of Skill and Method
College of Social Sciences, University of Glasgow

Dr Jo Ferrie’s research takes a social focus and examines what it means to live with a neurological condition. Her research has followed families who live with MND, focusing on the multiple barriers they face through diagnosis, and receiving social and medical support. Jo has also completed a qualitative interview project looking at the impact of voice banking and the Speak Unique programme on Scottish families. Her work has led to an increase in the number of specialist care nurses working in Scotland, which in turn has reduced the time families need to wait to see a nurse following diagnosis.

Jo is also Deputy Director of the Scottish Graduate School of Social Sciences, leading on training and is seconded to the University of Edinburgh part-time to complete this role. She is also Director of Glasgow Q-Step, a £1.4 million centre that promotes data skills in the social sciences.
