Chancellor's Fellow
Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences, University of Edinburgh

Dr Leah Herrgen's main research goal is to find out how the brain can repair itself after an injury. Her lab studies how brain repair works in zebrafish, a small tropical fish that can mend its brain after an injury, in contrast to humans. Once we understand how zebrafish manage to repair their brains, we will then be able to use that knowledge to develop new therapies for patients with brain injury.

Before coming to Edinburgh, Leah worked at the University of Tübingen, the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics Dresden, and the University of Oxford. In 2015, she joined the University of Edinburgh to start her own research group.
