Dr Gillian Hunter’s research focuses on a childhood motor neuron disease, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).  Her laboratory aims to understand what cells and organs in the body are affected in SMA with the aim of informing future therapeutic design.

Gillian studied genetics at the University of Glasgow before carrying out her PhD in neurogenetics at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London. She carried out postdoctoral training at the Universities of Oxford and Edinburgh before accepting a lectureship position at Glasgow Caledonian University.
