Dr Hazel Allardyce’s research focuses on understanding the contribution of the vascular changes to neurodegenerative and neurological diseases, including motor neuron disease. Her work investigates how vascular abnormalities influence disease development and progression.

Dr Allardyce completed her PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Anatomy) at the University of Aberdeen in 2023, where she investigated vascular deficits in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and demonstrated vascular pathology in patient spinal cord tissue. Following her PhD, she undertook postdoctoral research investigating the mechanisms and consequences of vascular alterations in SMA. In 2025, Dr Allardyce was awarded a research fellowship from the Chief Scientist Office of the Scottish Government. She is currently a Research Fellow within the School of Infection & Immunity at the University of Glasgow, where she studies vascular dysfunction across neurodegenerative diseases and explores its potential as a therapeutic target.
