Dr Bhuvaneish T Selvaraj
Bhuvaneish’s research focus is to decipher why motor neurons are selectively vulnerable as observed in MND, and also to identify methods to improve the lost neuron-muscle connections. To achieve this he uses a combination of advanced human stem cell technology to generate patient “disease-in-a-dish” models and state-of-the-art genome-manipulation tools for his experiments.
Bhuvaneish is an engineering graduate from Anna University, India. He began his scientific research career with a PhD in neurobiology at University of Wuerzburg, Germany. In 2014, he moved to the University of Edinburgh to undertake his post-doctoral research on human stem cell disease modelling of neurodegenerative diseases. In 2020 he was awarded a Chancellor’s Fellowship at the University of Edinburgh.
