Dr Ilary Allodi investigates the changes in cell circuits in the brain and spinal cord that take place in neurodegenerative diseases including MND and frontotemporal dementia, and how these changes contribute to neurodegeneration. Her aim is to identify new targets for treatment or to assist with making earlier diagnoses.

Ilary is originally from Italy, she studied Neuropsychology at the University of Turin. She obtained her PhD in Neuroscience from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain) under the supervision of Profs. Xavier Navarro and Esther Udina. In 2012 she joined Prof. Eva Hedlund’s laboratory at the Karolinska Institutet (Sweden) and in 2017 she moved to University of Copenhagen (Denmark) to work in Prof. Ole Kiehn’s laboratory. In 2021, she became group leader at University of Copenhagen and since 2023 she is Lecturer in Systems Neuroscience at University of St Andrews.
