Lecturer in Veterinary Biomedical Science
Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh

Dr. Kosala Dissanayake’s research focus is on understanding nerve-muscle signal transmission which is vital to optimal muscle function (such as walking, talking, and breathing).  Moreover, the nerve-muscle contact point is the one of the first places to become affected / show clinical symptoms in people with MND. Kosala is trying to understand how certain toxins (e.g. pesticides) affect nerve-muscle transmission. In the laboratory, she has been testing ways to restore nerve-muscle transmission thas has been damaged by pesticides.

Upon completion of a degree in veterinary medicine in Sri Lanka, Kosala joined the University of Edinburgh to continue higher studies in Neuroscience. She has been a Lecturer at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh since 2022.
