Dr Giusy Pennetta

Group Leader and Senior Lecturer
Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences, University of Edinburgh

Dr Giuseppa (Giusy) Pennetta’s research aims at elucidating novel molecular aspects of ALS-associated neurodegeneration, which can potentially lead to the development of better therapeutic strategies for the disease.

Dr Pennetta received her PhD at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) in the field of Developmental Biology after which she pursued a post-doctoral training in the laboratory of Hugo Bellen at the HHMI/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston (USA) where she became interested in the molecular underpinnings of neuronal structure and function. She then moved to the University of Edinburgh (UK) as group-leader and lecturer to pursue her research in disease-related mechanisms of ALS, using genetic, molecular and bioinformatics approaches.
